Awww, Kerry Wood and son run around Wrigley—for the last time? (Chicago Tribune photo)
Here’s to you, Kerry Wood.
There’s no way you can know what you meant to me when I was eight years old, but I hope you know that the part of me that is eight years old is always rooting for you.
All 20 strikeouts from Kerry Wood’s 5/6/1998 masterpiece.
I remember watching this game the day that it happened, and being in such awe.
I have always loved Kerry Wood and was torn up completely when he left the Cubs organization. But when they announced his return to Wrigleyville, “beyond thrilled” didn’t even begin to cover it. More like “victory lap around the house.”
Even in the last months and weeks, I could never be mad at Kerry. No matter how many people tried to tell me that he didn’t deserve the benefit of my doubt or that he “had never been very good anyways.” Nothing will ever tarnish my love of Kerry Wood. It is such a shame that injuries had hold back what could have been a seriously prolific career.
If he is, or was nothing else, Kerry Wood is fantastic human being and stand up guy. Like it or not, he is a Cub through and through and his legacy will last forever. He always represented heart, hope and promise; the three things that being a Cubs fan is all about.

Kerry Wood 10.3 K per 9 ranks second in MLB history behind Randy Johnson (10.6) among pitchers with at least 1,000 innings pitched
